The question in the title of this post is one that I get quite often. It elicits the ultimate consultant answer of course because, well, it depends.
In a perfect world I would say tell me how much you need to spend to acquire a new customer, how much profit that customer produces over their lifetime and how many customers you need to reach your annual growth objectives.
But, we all know that perfect world is a fantasy land. I’ve yet to encounter too many business that can even tell me how much they currently spend let alone how much they need to invest to produce steady growth.
